How a Father's Sacrifice Became the Heart of Hawai'i's 'Ulu Legend

Before sunrise on Hawai'i Island, a man named 'Ulu prayed to the gods for help and guidance. His son was dying, and his village was starving. Later that day, 'Ulu told his wife he would not live to see morning. "Bury my body outside…" This is how a father's sacrifice became the heart of Hawai'i's 'ulu legend, a story of selflessness so profound that it nourished an entire community. We love this tale because it captures the authentic, grounded spirit of the islands. It's not just mythology; it's a reminder that the most luxurious thing we can offer is our devotion to one another.
