Ready to explore the North Shore's hidden gems, or still stuck at the flashing sign

That flashing "Local Traffic Only" sign past Hanalei School has been stirring up plenty of confusion, and honestly, we get it. You want to support local gems like The Haven, Wainiha Country Market, and maybe even Gaia, but no one wants to add to unnecessary congestion. The word on the island is mixed, some say residents heading to businesses or the beach are fine, while others insist only Wainiha-to-Haena locals should pass. Our take? If you're being respectful, stopping at those spots, and staying out of the way, you're likely in the clear. It's all about intention. And speaking of fresh local energy, our piece on the new chef at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay captures that same community-first, island-flavored spirit worth exploring.
