Iran claimed that it launched a cruise missile towards the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, though the U.S. has not given any confirmation regarding the same.

The news came after the Iranian Navy warned the U.S, stating that USS Abraham Lincoln is being closely monitored and could come under attack if it came close to Iran.

Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said that “strategic power” claimed by the United States had now “turned into a strategic defeat.”

The statement came after a de-escalation by U.S President Trump, who stepped back from the 48-hour ultimatum to launch attacks on Iranian power plants when Iran warned that it would lead to retaliatory strikes on critical infrastructure across the region.

After the U.S went back on its ‘ultimatum’, Zolfaqari said, “If the self-proclaimed superpower of the world could have escaped this predicament, it would have done so by now. Do not call your defeat an agreement.”

These statements countered Trump’s claims on his social media, where he said that Washington and Tehran held ‘constructive conversations’ over the last two days regarding resolving the conflict.

Iran Media cited sources in Tehran saying that no official communication had happened between the two countries, and even Zolfaqari said that the ‘era of relying on Washington’s assurances is over.’

He also laughed at the internal divisions within the U.S government, adding that the pre-war levels of U.S investment and energy prices in the region would not come back, asserting that regional stability would now be determined by Iran’s military power.

“Our first and last word from day one has been, is, and will be: someone like us will not come to terms with someone like you—not now, and not ever,” he concluded.
