Need opinions on wing clipping

CONTEXT: okay, so I'm a huge bird lover, and crazy against wing clipping. I've always been in charge of my chickens, (still technically a minor so I live with my mom on a homestead) but my mom's been going nuts. she's (and I quote) "sick and tired of all the bird poop everywhere." so she built them a little fenced in area so then they can still free range, since before she tried locking them in a 20x5 foot dog thing (can't remember what it's called) and they were crazy unhappy (like I said they would be) and she finally decided to give them a bigger area, I would say around 1/3 of an acre.

SUMMARIZED CONTEXT: chickens are getting out of fenced area and if it's due to gliding, mom wants to clip their wings.

now we have a few chickens getting out, and she said that if they're flying over the fensing then they just going to clip their wings. is this going to impact their way of life?? we don't have many hawk worries anymore since our roosters are absolute tanks, but I want to make sure that this won't affect their happiness. I know they're technically gliders, but still a birds wings are a birds wings, and if it's going to impact them I want to figure out an alternate asap.

i appreciate any suggestions on alternatives or opinions on the matter!!
