Need help with DIY lashes please! Newbie

So i have always gotten my lashes done never did them myself. I got some the other day and when I put the bond on my real lashes i feel like no matter how little I try to use i end up putting too much that its gunking my real lashes together and some of them look clumped up. How do I avoid doing this? Should I just put the bond on the actual fake lashes strip vs my real lashes? Please help guys any tips or tricks appreciated!​
